This role provides direct support to the periodontist and clinical team during surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the operatory, assisting throughout implantology and periodontal surgeries, and managing post-procedure tasks, all while maintaining strict standards of hygiene, safety, and patient comfort. Precision, attentiveness, and strong teamwork skills are essential. Key Responsibilities - Clinical and Surgical Assistance - Prepare the surgical room and arrange instruments according to established protocols. - Assist the dentist during surgical procedures (dental implants, grafts, periodontal surgeries). - Anticipate the dentist’s needs by providing required instruments and materials. - Monitor patient comfort, provide reassurance, and assist with proper positioning. - Apply strict protocols for sterilization, asepsis, and infection control. - Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment after each procedure. Patient Support - Explain pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients. - Provide basic follow-up after procedures in collaboration with the periodontist. - Contribute to a safe, calm, and reassuring patient experience. Health, Safety, and Organization - Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment that meets WorkSafe NB standards. - Handle instruments and materials safely and in accordance with clinic protocols. - Participate in inventory management, including preparing and ordering surgical supplies. - Report any situation or incident related to health, safety, or equipment. Other Responsibilities - Attend team meetings and participate in ongoing training. - Work closely with both the clinical and administrative teams to ensure smooth operations. - Perform any other related duties as assigned by the dentist or clinic manager. Work Environment - Standing for extended periods during surgical procedures (or seated, depending on the intervention). - Exposure to a medical environment requiring consistent use of personal protective equipment (mask, gloves, eyewear, face shield, gown). - Frequent movement throughout the clinic (surgical rooms, sterilization area, preparation zones). - Regular handling of sterile instruments and medical products. - Ability to lift light to moderate loads occasionally (up to 10–15 kg). - Calm environment, though occasionally high-pressure, requiring strong concentration. Skills and Qualifications - Diploma or training in dental assisting, with specialization or experience in surgery (asset). - Strong knowledge of sterilization and infection-control protocols. - Experience in implantology or periodontal surgery (strong asset). - Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and teamwork abilities. - Ability to communicate clearly and reassure patients. Bilingualism (French/English) required to serve the patient population.
